Grantmaking

We provide grants to Global South organizations led by women, particularly those from the most marginalized communities, who champion democracy, equality, women’s political leadership, and peace.

Philosophy

The Colmena Fund distributes funds through rounds of grants organized into cohorts that are either thematic or regional:

1. Global Thematic Cohorts focus on pressing issues such as:

– Violence against women in politics including tech-enabled violence.
– Women’s political leadership in contexts of conflict and transition.
– Women’s political leadership and climate justice.

2. Regional Cohorts seek to support organizations primarily active in a specific region or country within that region.

Our grantmaking approach

Initial Convening

We bring together different stakeholders to provide a space for discussion, networking, and community engagement, while informing the focus of each cohort.

Learning Community

We work to build a collaborative learning community from each cohort of grantee partners.

Organizations must be nominated by one of our partners in relation to a specific cohort.

Important: The Colmena Fund does not accept unsolicited proposals. New proposals are considered by invitation only, and nominations are also solicited through our partner network.

What we do not fund
